We had a new client call this week telling us they were thrilled that they added the GPS tracking systems when they did! They are a plumbing business and recently started their own company. The client was already familiar with EcoTrack and GPS tracking, as I was the GPS carrier of seven years for the company he worked at prior to starting his own business.
They got a call from one of the customers accusing their plumber of stealing an $800 cell phone off the front porch. They were mortified to think their employee would do this and quite upset to even have to talk to him about it. Before confronting their employee, they gathered the facts and got the information from UPS about the time that they dropped off the package. They then logged onto their EcoTrack Fleet GPS mapping platform and could see exactly what time the plumber got to the site, how long he stayed, and what time he left. As it turns out, he was there and gone before the package even arrived!
This was a relief in so many ways. First, it eliminated any doubt they may have that their employee was stealing packages. Second, assured their customer that the plumber did not take the package. Third, it prevented any problems they may have had by confronting their innocent employee. It also prevented any possibility of having to reimburse their customer for the cost of the cell phone! This was all done in a matter of minutes by pulling up the mapping platform and sending the information to their client.
Frequently employees think that the GPS tracking is merely used to “spy” on them. While it does hold them accountable, often times it is a means to defend them. This was exactly how it was used in this instance, and it saved the employee and the owner a lot of grief.
